Eugene
Ionesco,
1909-1994 ; Eugen Ionescu was born in 1909 in Slatina, Romania,
son of a lawyer, Eugen Ionescu Sr., licenced in Paris, and a
French lady Therese Zicard from Paris. In 1913 they move to
France, but in 1924 when his parents divorced, he returns with
his father to Romania. He studies in Craiova and Bucharest and
in 1929 attend University of Bucharest to study Literature and
Philosophy. In 1938 he moves again to Paris, following the receipt
of a scholarship for doctorate from French government. Only
in 1950s he finds his new literature identity, Eugene Ionesco
(as his name should be spelled in French) being considered the
founder of the avant-garde and absurd theater. His most popular
plays are "the Bald Singer", "the Lesson and the Chairs", "Killer
Without Pay", "the Rhinoceros". Died in 1994 and is buried in
Paris, in Montparnasse cemetery.
